Stepper engine is direct current device and has magnetic rotor and wired stator. Engines with two wired sections (4 ends) are bipolar, engines with 5 or 6 ends are unipolar. Bipolar engines needs bridge amplifiers (for example L298), unipolar engines can be driven with single transistors in every wired section. Main stepper engines parameter is engine step wchich means ax rotation with one, simplest steering signals. Engine with step s=7.5 degree rotate 7.5 degree with every steering signals and total 360 degree ax rotation needs 360/7.5=48 steering signals. In practice this means that using stepper engine improve total gear with ratio 360/s and mechanical gear could be smaler. The another important parameters are: holding torque (power of engine), wire resistance, inductance.

Total mount gear G depends on:
mechanical gear M,
Engine step S (360/step),
Steering type T (full, half or microstepping),
and can be counted as product of this three values: G = M * S * T
